Justice Sedita withdraws as chief of jurors candidate
State Supreme Court Justice Frank A. Sedita Jr., citing his desire to remain active in the courts and help with potential backlog problems, has withdrawn from consideration for appointment as Erie County commissioner of jurors.
Sedita informed Administrative Judge Paula L. Feroleto of his decision.
“I plan to stay where I can make the most contributions to the system, and that is as a judge,” said Sedita, 74, the father of Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.
Feroleto said she hopes the Erie County Jury Board, currently interviewing 10 finalists from the 62 applicants, can make a selection by the end of November. Officials would not disclose the names of the finalists.
The winner will succeed Mehrl F. King, who retired in April after 16 years as commissioner of jurors.
