Stimulus to fund 3 road projects
After one of the bleakest winters for business that Amherst Paving president David Roetzer can remember, he is grateful for the $2.2 million in stimulus money that will pay for his crew to do three road projects this summer — including part of Transit Road.
The money — some of the first to be certified by Gov. David A. Paterson — will cover the cost of asphalt and keep nine of Roetzer’s employees working on the following projects:
• $648,000 to pave 1.5 miles of Transit, from Genesee Street to French Road. Work is expected to be completed by July 6.
• $1.1 million for about 3 miles of roadway on Routes 219 and 417 through Salamanca. Work is expected to get under way within the next two weeks and last about a month.
• $500,000 for repaving the intersection of Millersport Highway and Transit and ramps at three intersections: Millersport-Maple Road, Genesee- Dick Road and Harlem Road-Broadway. Work, which will last about three weeks, begins in about a month.
“It’s definitely a huge help because the state didn’t have any money,” Roetzer said. “We just scheduled it so that we keep these people working.”
The work is part of $58 million worth of economic recovery funding for 45 transportation infrastructure projects in Western New York, according the governor’s office.
