ECMC chest pain center gains accreditation
Erie County Medical Center has received the Society of Chest Pain Centers’ national accreditation as a chest pain center with an angioplasty intervention designation.
It is the fifth hospital in the state to receive the accreditation and one of 250 accredited chest pain centers with the angioplasty designation in the nation, according to the medical center.
Angioplasty is the procedure to clear blocked or narrowed arteries around the heart.
The accreditation of the society based in Columbus, Ohio, requires hospitals to meet or exceed quality-of-care measures in acute cardiac medicine, as well as to reduce the time of treatment or unnecessary treatment. The accreditation process includes on-site evaluations by a review team from the society.
