Council member sets up weekly ‘drop-in night’
Niagara District residents will be able to visit a former Grant Street library one night a week to air their concerns about neighborhood issues or seek assistance.
Council Member David A. Rivera is setting up the satellite office each Tuesday from 4 p. m. to 7 p. m. at 271 Grant St. Staff from his City Hall office will be on hand each week to talk with constituents. In the future, the satellite center may also help people apply for various tax exemptions, home heating assistance and other services.
Staging a weekly “drop-in night” might help to make some residents’ lives less hectic, said Rivera.
The city-owned building on Grant Street near West Delavan Avenue is also home to two high-profile community advocacy groups. The Massachusetts Avenue Project and PUSH (People United for Sustainable Housing) have offices in the former West Side library, a facility that is also used for many community events.
