Urban Design Project earns honors for work

Story tools:

University at Buffalo’s Urban Design Project, headed by Robert Shibley, an urban and regional planner in the School of Architecture and Planning, received four awards for its work developing plans for Buffalo’s urban center, waterfront and Olmsted parks system.

The International Economic Development Council awarded an Honorable Mention for Neighborhood Development for “Queen City Hub: A Regional Action Plan for Downtown Buffalo,” developed on behalf of the City of Buffalo. It was presented at the council’s annual meeting in Atlanta on Oct. 31.

UB’s Urban Design Project received two Planning Excellence for Best Practice Awards in July and October from the Upstate Chapter of the New York State American Planning Association for development of a Buffalo waterfront plan.

A fourth award from the New York Upstate Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architecture was given in November for a 21st century plan for the Olmsted Park system edited by Shibley and his wife, Lynda Schneekloth, professor of architecture and planning.
