$90,000 in charges rung up on credit cards
A houseguest who helped himself to his roommates’ identities faces a likely prison sentence after admitting in federal court Friday that he obtained 17 credit cards in the names of two people he lived with and ran up charges of nearly $90,000.
Sonny D. Nguyen, 27, who now lives in Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of bank fraud when he appeared before Chief District Judge Richard J. Arcara. The charge carries a maximum prison term of 30 years and a fine of $1 million.
Agents from the United States Postal Service and Secret Service said Nguyen used the names and Social Security numbers of two people he lived with in Buffalo from May 2007 through October 2007.
