Two officers injured while arresting two men
Two men were arrested and two Buffalo police officers were injured following a brief chase stemming from a West Side traffic stop.
Northwest District Officers Bart Adams and Thomas Herbert made the arrests at about 11 p. m. Sunday after they briefly chased two men, who fled a black Honda Civic on the 100 block of Bird Avenue, according to reports.
Adams suffered swelling and bruising to his left knee, as well as numerous cuts to his hands and arms. Herbert’s injuries were not immediately known. Both officers were released from Erie County Medical Center after treatment.
Melvin Castillo, 19, of West Avenue, and Oscar J. Baez, 20, of Baynes Street, were taken into custody in a backyard on the 100 block of Bird.
Their car ran a stop sign at Garner Avenue and DeWitt Street, police said. A billy club was found in the vehicle, according to a report.
Castillo was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, unlawful possession of marijuana and forgery. Castillo also was wanted an outstanding warrant.
Baez faces charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration. He also was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
