The Western New York Independent Living Project will hold “Double Trouble,” a support group for individuals recovering from mental disorders and addiction problems, 1 to 2:30 p. m. Wednesday in the Marvin Palanker Conference Room, 3108 Main St. For information, call 836-0822, Ext. 154.

Literacy Empowerment Action Plan of WNY ( LEAP), 3200 Elmwood Ave., Town of Tonawanda, is accepting children in grades 1-12 with significant reading difficulties for its diagnostic reading assessment and remedial instruction programs. Lake Shore Behavioral Health, 254 Franklin St., provides mental health and chemical dependency services in Buffalo and Erie County. Services include outpatient mental health clinics, day treatment, homeless services, rehabilitation and vocational services, and adult and teen alcohol/ drug programs. The Overnight Respite program at Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled provides care for those 18 and older with disabilities, allowing caregivers some respite time. For information, call Kevin Martin at 877-1111.

Phoenix Frontier, a human services agency, offers day programs for individuals with disabling conditions that affect their ability to work. People served range in age from 16 to 65, and disabilities include: mental retardation, developmental disabilities (cerebral palsy, autism, seizures and neurological impairment), alcoholism, substance abuse, physical disabilities, blindness or visual impairment, traumatic brain injury, mental health and more. The Early Childhood Direction Center provides information and referral to parents and professionals on the needs of developmentally disabled children up to age 5. The center also offers technical assistance to child care centers that care for young children with special needs. It serves Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Niagara and Orleans counties.
