Fan Food Drive sets food, money records
It was a good day Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium, both on and off the field, as the Buffalo Bills won their season opener, and fans raised record amounts of food and money as part of the 11th annual Fan Food Drive.
“We set a record in the amount of food and money collected,” Michael Billoni, director of marketing and public relations for the Food Bank of Western New York, said Sunday night.
Billoni said an anonymous donor from a nearby suburb presented a check for $100,000 to the drive. With the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation agreeing to match the donation, it brought the day’s total to $218,000.
The drive also collected a record amount of food, which will be matched, as well, by Tops Markets, he said. While the food won’t be weighed until today, he said he expects it to be just under 3,000 pounds.
“We’ve never had this kind of generosity in the past,” he said.
The Food Bank distributes food to nearly 100,000 people every month through its more than 400 member agencies.
