Attorney Diane Schwach of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Buffalo field office, has received HUD’s Curry Award for her “continuing commitment to excellence.” She has taught at HUD’s training sessions on real estate closings for other HUD lawyers.

Mark D. Webe r, who earned his master’s degree this year from Canisius College, has been named assistant director of the annual fund drive at the college. The goal for the 2008-2009 fund drive is $2.65 million.

Judith Kaczmarek has been given the Federal Woman of the Year award by the Federal Executive Board. She is a human resource specialist at the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Western New York Healthcare System.

Terri Julian, program manager of the Batavia VA’s Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Residential Programs, was selected Supervisor/Manager of the Year by the Federal Board.

Julian, a licensed clinical psychologist, has extensive trauma-treatment training and specializes in the treatment of psychoactive substance abuse. She advocates for the delivery of compassionate and state-of-the-art treatment to help veterans suffering from military-related trauma.

Clifton Wheeler, a lieutenant investigator for the Fredonia State College police, won four medals at the North American Indigenous Games last month in British Columbia.

He was one of more than 3,000 indigenous athletes from the United States and Canada who competed in 16 sporting events.

Wheeler, from the Walker River Paiute tribe, won one gold and three silver medals in rifle shooting.

Three other members of Team New York, from the Cattaraugus Territory of the Seneca Nation, also won medals in rifle shooting. Taking home bronze medals for aggregate scores in their age categories were Cochese Redeye ( “ seniors ” ) , Katy Bacco (“juveniles”) and Chelsea Redeye (“midgets”).

The Indigenous Games are managed by the Native American Sports Council, a nonprofit arm of the United States Olympic Committee.

The Buffalo Seminary board of trustees elected five new members to serve three-year terms. They are Jennifer Bu rger, Deborah Lipke and David Knauss, as well as Robin Simon Magavern, a 1952 graduate of the school, and Cynthia Baird Stark, a 1981 graduate.

Shelley Cole Drake, Class of 1966, has been appointed a life trustee. She’s active in the community as chairwoman and member of several boards. She was the recipient of the National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York Philanthropist of the Year award in 2007.

Katherine Crandell Bassett, Class of 1950, has been appointed and honorary trustee. Bassett is past president of the Graduates Association and received the Outstanding Service Award for her years of dedication to Buffalo Seminary.
