Stolen county computer may contain personal data
A county laptop computer possibly containing personal information about people who met with a social worker was stolen late last month from a county health facility, county officials announced Friday.
The computer was taken from a health facility at 608 William St. in Buffalo on or around Aug. 28, County Attorney Cheryl A. Green said.
“Personal, private information may have been contained on the laptop for individuals who met with the social worker at both 608 William St. and 1500 Broadway,” Green said in a statement.
The theft was reported to the Buffalo Police Department. County officials have begun contacting people who may have met with the social worker to alert them about the missing laptop.
In addition to police, officials with the county’s law, health and buildings and grounds departments are investigating the incident.
