Ex-bookkeeper told to pay back $17,300

Story tools:

A Buffalo woman avoided jail Tuesday but was ordered to pay back $17,300 for a variety of thefts, including signing up family members illegally for health care coverage while handling the books for her employer.

Diane M. Dorsheimer, 47, of Narragansett Road, also was barred from handling money for future employers. State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski also banned her from being involved with charitable fundraising activities while on probation for the next five years.

John C. Doscher, chief of the Erie County district attorney’s White-Collar Crime Bureau, said Dorsheimer pleaded guilty to a felony charge of fourth-degree grand larceny for embezzling funds as the bookkeeper from Roofing Consultants of Kenmore.

Dorsheimer, Doscher said, took advantage of the fact that the head of the Kenmore company was legally blind, siging up family members to the company’s health plan. She also used company credit cards and checks for personal expenses, Doscher said.

In 2001, State Supreme Court Justice Mario J. Rossetti placed Dorsheimer on probation for three years after she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor attempted grand larceny for stealing $4,400 from M. A. Moslow & Brothers, a Buffalo wood products business, for which she also was employed as a bookkeeper.
