Suspect to remain jailed in shootings, jewelry theft
Brandon Carmichael was ordered Monday to remain jailed in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or a $1 million bail bond in the shootings of three people and a jewelry theft over the weekend in University Heights.
Carmichael, 16, of Minnesota Avenue, was arrested late Sunday and charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and weapons counts in the shootings and the mugging of an 18-year-old woman at Comstock and Dartmouth avenues at about 10:45 p. m. Saturday.
Carmichael, allegedly aided by two unidentified men, is accused of pulling a gold chain from the woman’s neck and then chasing her to a house in the 200 block of Comstock. He’s accused of then injuring four other people — three who suffered minor gunshot wounds and one who was cut by broken window glass — when he allegedly fired repeatedly into the house.
Prosecutor John G. Schoemick said Carmichael faces a felony hearing Thursday afternoon before acting City Judge Jeffrey F. Voelkl, who remanded him Monday.
