Ex-Buffalo woman gets year in jail for tax fraud
A North Carolina woman formerly from Buffalo was sentenced to a year and a day in jail for filing false tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service, U. S. Attorney Terrance P. Flynn reported Monday.
Mialea Porter, 32, of Statesville, N. C., was convicted in May of submitting a false claim to the IRS.
Assistant U. S. Attorney Gretchen L. Wylegala said Porter filed false and fraudulent tax returns in her own name as well as on behalf of others using online tax preparation software.
An investigation determined Porter falsified income and dependent information that defrauded the IRS of $123,000.
