City schools, Parent Network to receive federal grants
WASHINGTON — The Buffalo Board of Education and the Parent Network of Western New York will receive more than $375,000 in grants from the U. S. Department of Education over a three-year period, Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N. Y., announced Tuesday.
The Buffalo schools will use $277,931 in grant funding to partner with the art and music education department of Buffalo State College to create the Buffalo Urban Arts Teacher Academy.
“The funding for the Buffalo Board of Education will allow students from the neediest schools in the Buffalo school district to learn about visual arts, music and take part in class trips and cultural events,” Schumer said.
The Parent Network will receive $100,000 to improve training and support services for parents of children with disabilities.
