Recognizing the accomplishments of Western New Yorkers

Cortland State College awarded Amber Ingalls, a sociology major, the Harry De- Witt DeGroat Scholarship.

The award, given by the Cortland College Foundation in memory of the college’s third president who served from 1912 to 1943, is presented to second-semester sophomores and juniors with a grade point average of 3.2 or better who have contributed to the college community.

Ingalls has served as an orientation assistant and a resident assistant and has worked open houses at the college.

She participated in intramural basketball and soccer and has been a member of the student staff advisory board, the student affairs connections committee and the residence life banquet committee. Ingalls is a 2006 graduate of Cuba- Rushford High School and the daughter of Eric and Tina Ingalls of Cuba.

Hartwick College senior Randy Browne of Buffalo is the recipient of Hartwick College Honors Program Recognition, the Linda S. French Memorial Award in Management, the New York State Society of CPAs Accounting Award, and has been inducted into the Hartwick College Honor Society.

Browne is majoring in accounting and management. At Hartwick, he has participated in Men’s Varsity Football, Honors Program, and Student Union.

Eight students of German — three in high school and five in middle school — have been named recipients of the Joseph

P. Wirth Memorial Essay Contest awards.

The $100 prize first place went to Peter Mandych of East Aurora High School who wrote his essay in German. Second place ($50) went to Alexandra Gaudy and third ($25) went to Andrew Henning, both students at Kenmore East High School.

In the middle school category first place went to Samantha Kelleher of Herbert Hoover Middle School; second went to Tom Elling. Three other students, Leigh Ann Gantz, Alyssa Cianco, and Katrina Long tied for third.

Jillian Delmont of Cassadaga and Alexandra Johnson of Olean, who graduated from Jamestown Community College’s nursing degree program in May, have been recognized with awards from the Professional Nurses Association of Western New York.

Johnson received a District I scholarship and will attend Daemen College to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Delmont, who earned a degree in criminal justice and is pursuing a career at Erie County Medical Center, received a graduate nurse membership award.

Jamestown Community College honored 10 alumni who have distinguished themselves in their work as administrators in their school systems.
