With other UB researchers, Quattrin will test a family based, weight-control intervention in some local pediatric practices, the first study of its kind in the United States.

Co-principal investigators on the study, involving 108 children, are James Roemmich, associate professor of pediatrics and exercise and nutrition sciences, and Leonard Epstein, Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics.

The intervention, tested successfully in a pilot study, involves the parent, child and family physician. Quattrin said that nearly one in three local young children are close to being overweight or already are overweight.
