Christian Bochicchio has won the 2008 Msgr. David M. Lee Scholarship, awarded annually by the Buffalo Diocesan Office of Communications, and named after the founder and longtime director of the communications office.
The 17-year-old, a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Batavia, won the honor for his performance and potential in the communications field.
Christian wrote for his school newspaper, the Nodahi , for four years. School counselor Nancy Parker said that he “excels in the written word,” and is talented in creative, informative and formal research writing.
Christian, who plays football, basketball and has recently given up baseball for golf, wants to combine his love of sports with his communication skills by pursuing a career in sports broadcasting.
He has already taken a public speaking course at Genesee Community College, and will attend Utica College this fall, where he plans to work in the school’s new high-definition television studio to learn the skills to be a sportscaster.
Of his award he said, “it’s a tremendous honor. Msgr. Lee sent me a little card wishing me the best.”
