Fake Nikes confiscated in raid on delicatessen
Three suspects were arrested and about 2,000 pairs of counterfeit sneakers valued at more than $100,000 were
seized late Wednesday from Zack’s Corner Store at Alma and Olympic avenues, Buffalo police said.
The store owner, Adel A. Abdulmajid, 25, was charged with felony trademark counterfeiting and criminal possession of a weapon. A store clerk, Abdullah A. Hassan, 34, of West Ferry Street, along with Hussein Ali, 19, of Ingham Avenue, Lackawanna, were charged each with felony trademark counterfeiting.
Also seized was $40,411 in cash and a .357 handgun, police said.
Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives, noted similar raids have occurred this year — on Sycamore Street and East Delavan Avenues.
“There is a market for the sneakers,” Richards said. “The public is being fooled if they think they’re buying Nikes.”
