DA ‘has no plans’ to subpoena Wilson

Story tools:

The Erie County district attorney says he “has no plans” to subpoena Buffalo Bills owner Ralph C. Wilson Jr. to testify before a grand jury looking into the hit-and-run accident involving a vehicle registered to running back Marshawn Lynch.

District Attorney Frank J. Clark made the announcement in a news release late Friday afternoon and provided no further details.

Police continued their investigation into the May 31 accident, in which an SUV registered to Lynch struck a pedestrian at Delaware Avenue and Chippewa Street and left the scene.

The victim, Kelly Shpeley, 27, of Milton, Ont., was not seriously injured.

Law enforcement sources told The Buffalo News that Clark was contemplating issuing a subpoena to Wilson and had already issued subpoenas for Chris Clark, the team’s security director, and players James Hardy, Steve Johnson and Christian Gaddis.

Four Buffalo police investigators spent about an hour and a half at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Thursday afternoon interviewing the three players.

Thursday, a law enforcement source said it was expected that Wilson and Russ Brandon, the Bills chief operating officer, would be subpoenaed but that the final decision would rest with the district attorney.

The source had said that when the detectives went to the stadium Thursday, they saw Wilson talking to at least one of the players who has been subpoenaed. “So they believe he and other [team officials] may have some information about the situation,” the source said.
