United Way of Buffalo & Erie County honored four people Tuesday for their community volunteer service.
Tony Coppola and John Magney were named the George L. Wessel Labor Volunteers of the Year for their work on the Income-Taxi, a bus that travels around Erie County and provides financial workshops and tax preparation services to more than 17,000 families.
Susan Koehler received the “One Person” Award for her work at Cornerstone Manor, City Mission’s shelter for women and children. Koehler initiated a program in 2000 to provide child care for homeless and struggling families.
Mike Keating was named Volunteer of the Year for his 15 years of commitment to United Way. Keating, senior vice president for Wegmans’ Buffalo division, became involved with United Way as a loan executive to company Chief Executive Officer Danny Wegman, who was campaign chairman at the time.
The event was held at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.
