Fire destroyed the Benjamin Moore Paint Store at 1405 Niagara Falls Blvd. early this morning, Amherst Fire Control officials said.

Several passers-by reported the fire shortly before 1 a.m.

The fire was in the rear of the store and caused heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the building.

Firefighters with the North Bailey Fire Company, with the assistance of the Brighton Fire Company, had the blaze under control in 20 minutes.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury. Damages were estimated at $850,000.

Investigators said there were no sprinklers in the building.

The cause of the fire was under investigation by the Amherst Fire Inspectors Office.
