CANISIUS LECTURE: The Canisius College Soup With Substance Lecture Series will present Frank Messiah, president of the Buffalo NAACP, at 12:30 p. m. today in Regis South on the Canisius Campus, 2001 Main St. Messiah will discuss the NAACP in the “Age of Obama.” Soup will be served. EPIC ENROLLMENT: EPIC, the New York State Senior Prescription Plan, will sponsor open enrollment to assist eligible senior citizens in filling out applications and answer questions on how EPIC works with the Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage Plans. Enrollments will take place from 12:30 to 2 p. m. today in the City of Tonawanda Senior Center, 35 Main St.; 9:30 to 11:30 a. m. Friday in the5 Town of Tonawanda Senior Center, 291 Ensminger Road, and noon to 2 p. m. in the John Duke Senior Center, 1201 Hyde Park Blvd., Niagara Falls; and 1 to 2:30 p. m. Tuesday in theAkron/Newstead Senior Center, 5673 Cummings Road, Akron. Senior citizens are asked to bring proof of age and 2009 income documentation. Call (800) 332-3742.

WINTER HIKE: The Western New York Land Conservancy will host a free Winter Tree Identification Hike from 10 a. m. to noon Saturday, at Kenneglenn Scenic and Nature Preserve in the Town of Wales. John Sly, a forestry expert and longtime program leader with the Buffalo Audubon Society will lead the hike and demonstrate how to identify trees and bushes by examining bark, shape, branching and location, without relying on leaf shape. . USED BOOK SALE: The annual used book sale hosted by the Friends of Elma Public Library will be held from 8 a. m. to 4 p. m. Monday through Feb. 12 in the lobby of Elma Town Hall, 1600 Bowen Road. All proceeds benefit the library.
