Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara is hosting an open house, “Reaching Beyond Special Education,” from 3:30 to 7 p. m. Tuesday at 2510 Niagara Falls Blvd., Wheatfield, and Thursday at 107 Heath St., Lockport. The Parent Network of Western New York offers a free workshop, “Resolving Behavior Challenges in Autism Spectrum Disorders,” from 5:30 to 8:30 p. m. The NFTA Advisory Committee on the Disabled will meet from 2:30 to 3:30 p. m. Thursday in the Heritage Center, Allentown Industries, 101 Oak St. It is open to those interested in learning about the NFTA’s accessible services and programs for people with disabilities. The Disability Unit of Neighborhood Legal Services provides free legal assistance to individuals with disabilities on issues including vocational rehabilitation, Social Security work incentives, inappropriate institutionalization, discrimination based on disability, access to patient records, special education and more. The office, in Ellicott Square, is open from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. Monday through Friday. For information, call 847-0650.

The Early Childhood Direction Center provides information and referral to parents and professionals on the needs of developmentally disabled children to age 5. It also provides technical assistance to child care centers that care for young children with special needs. It serves Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Niagara and Orleans counties. The Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center, 50 E. North St., diagnoses and treats children and adults with communication disorders. The center provides speech-language evaluations and therapy, hearing evaluations, hearing aids, assistive listening and speaking devices, and support groups. It also offers an early childhood program, which includes an early intervention program for infants through 3 years, a preschool for children 3 to 5 years and kindergarten. The center has offices in Buffalo, Amherst, Silver Creek and West Seneca. For information, call 885-8318.

Horizon Health Services, 3020 Bailey Ave., offers programs in Erie and Niagara counties to assist individuals with mental illness, chemical dependency and/or developmental disabilities. For information, call 831-1800 or visit
