LITTLE VALLEY — Organizing to do business for 2010, the Cattaraugus County Legislature this week decided how to spend state public works money, made several appointments, approved contracts with funding for agencies and hired outside attorneys to help with the workload.

The legislators plan to use the money in projects, including: Conewango Bridge 8, $15,000; Leon Bridge 1, $30,000; Ischua Culvert 39, $50,000; Machias Culvert 19, $25,000; South Valley Culvert 26, $210,000; Hardy’s Corner Road, $765,000; and Chipmunk Road, $860,000.
Money has already been approved in the current budget for various contract agencies. Legislators voted approval to make these payments, including: Cornell Cooperative Extension, $299,812; BOCES student government program, $13,624; Cattaraugus Empire Zone, $33,750; County Arts Council, $10,800; Southern Tier Regional Planning Board, $24,970; Chautauqua- Cattaraugus Library System, $85,524; Chautauqua County Star Flight, $9,000; Mercy Flight, $9,000; county SPCA, $1,680; and Southern Tier Health Care System for advance life support operations, $18,000.
Legislators authorized County Attorney Dennis V. Tobolski to hire a bonding attorney to oversee projects financed through the sale of bonds and to hire additional legal counsel to handle any civil actions filled against the county or those which may be pending.
Fiscal Advisors & Marketing Inc. of Cicero were hired to prepare in-depth financial statements and other financial documents as needed by the county.
Several appointments to agencies and boards were made.
The next legislature meeting will be Jan. 27 in the County Center.
