Ambulance service change called a success
Updated: August 21, 2010, 3:54 AM
BATAVIA—Four months of trouble-free service by Mercy EMS, a land-based ambulance service provided in Genesee County by Mercy Flight, has put to rest fears that the change in emergency responders would encounter problems, a county official said.
Timothy J. Yaeger, coordinator of the county’s Emergency Management Services, said the ambulance service has done “an excellent job,” meeting response time goals and winning praise for its staff and equipment.
For over a decade, the city’s Fire Department, with as many as 24 paramedics, provided life-support response in a countywide operation that served the city and 16 villages, towns and fire districts.
That ended Aug. 31 and Mercy Flight, with a helicopter based at the county airport for three years, was chosen to add land-based response to its airlift.
