FREDONIA — The Village of Fredonia, according to a report by the Chadwick Bay development group, has the second-lowest water rates in the bay area, coming in at $23.50 per quarter, the Fredonia Village Board learned at its meeting Monday night.

The Village of Brocton has the lowest — $22.30 per quarter.

The Town of Pomfret cost per quarter is $50 for water purchased from Fredonia and $95 per quarter for water purchased from Dunkirk. The $95 figure is the highest per-quarter rate in the Chadwick Bay area, which includes the villages of Fredonia and Brocton; the towns of Pomfret, Portland, Sheridan and Dunkirk; and the City of Dunkirk.

The board will continue to meet in regular session the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:30 p. m., with a workshop session at 6:30 p. m., both in Village Hall. If there is a fifth Monday in a month, the board will meet in a workshop session at 6:30 p. m. the first Monday of the following month.

Trustee Thomas Brown introduced discussion of an idea for residential tax breaks for new home construction and capital home improvements in the village. Brown gave each board member a letter written by Village Attorney Sam Drayo Jr. briefly describing the tax break proposal.

Guidelines would be set, including income eligibility for some of the tax breaks. The board will study the proposal and discuss it again at its next workshop session, set for 6:30 p. m. Monday in Village Hall.

In other business:

The board accepted Dog Control Officer John Maggio Jr.’s retirement after 21 years of service. The board is expected to appoint Maggio’s assistant, Doug Bunge, as the new dog control officer at its meeting at 7:30 p. m. Dec. 28.

A public hearing on amendments to the village’s sidewalk ordinance will be held at 7:30 p. m. Dec. 28 in Village Hall.
