Harbor dredging project is ready to begin
Updated: August 21, 2010, 3:14 AM
SILVER CREEK –Dredging the harbor at Silver Creek is expected to begin today.
At a special meeting of the Village Board on Monday, a bid of $118,499 from UCC Construction of West Seneca was accepted. The bid was one of six received.
The lowest bidder was CTS of Cheektowaga. Its $93,000 bid was rejected because a certificate of insurance was not included in the package. The highest of the six bids was $223,000 from Man ’O Trees in West Seneca.
Working Superintendent Ralph Crawford said that UCC crews are expected to be on site today and continue working two shifts until about 38,000 tons of gravel and silt are removed from the harbor area. Extra deposits of gravel and silt were left in the waterway after the Aug. 9 flood.
The village has received a permit from the Department of Environmental Conservation to dredge the area for the next seven days.
