Lack of swine flu vaccine prompts cancellations
Updated: August 21, 2010, 2:53 AM
OLEAN—The Cattaraugus County Health Department has canceled its clinics scheduled for today through Saturday offering swine flu vaccine for emergency health care personnel and those in priority age groups.
“Due to the increased numbers of late requests for the H1N1 vaccine within our previously scheduled priority points of distribution clinics, and the limited supply within our vaccine stockpile, the Health Department will have to postpone clinics,” said Dr. Kevin Watkins, county public health director.
Clinics for emergency medical services personnel were scheduled today at the Ellicottville Fire Department and Saturday at the Dayton Fire Department; clinics for those in other priority groups were scheduled Friday at the Machias Fire Department and the Salamanca Health Department offices on Iroquois Drive.
Watkins, who assumed the health director post Monday, said clinics will be scheduled as additional supplies of vaccine become available.
The county H1N1 Help Line is available at 938-2980 or 373-3980 or toll free at 211.
