OLEAN—Eleven people charged in sealed grand jury indictments with selling and possessing drugs in Olean were arrested early Wednesday through a coordinated effort of 25 police officers from the area.

The indictments were based on cases put together by the Olean Police Street Crimes Unit and Cattaraugus County District Attorney Edward M. Sharkey, whose office has been presenting evidence to several grand juries in recent weeks from investigations ongoing the last year.

Most were taken to Cattaraugus County Jail in Little Valley. Several have been arraigned before County Judge Larry M. Himelein and entered not guilty pleas. Others are scheduled for arraignments Monday in County Court.

Police said the suspects were wanted for the sale and possession of crack cocaine, heroin and prescription drugs such as Loritab and hydrocodone.

Sharkey said he continues to present cases to a grand jury and more arrests are pending in other areas of the county.

All of those arrested have Olean addresses and face one or more charges of criminal sale and possession of controlled substances, in various degrees.

Those arrested Wednesday included Jeffrey Mayfield, 51, and Stacey R. Spencer Jr., 20, who pleaded not guilty when arraigned Thursday; Buddy L. Langdon, 28; Derek P. Bentley, 20; Frank B. Cole, 26; Clifford J. Thompson, 23; Anna G. Gelmer, 51; Obidah Ramadhan, 23; Randy A. Shaffer, 32; Stacey R. Spencer, 20; Intisar Ramadhan Spencer, 30; and Gary P. Holland, 27, who is currently in the Erie County Holding Center on separate charges.
