Healing Mass offered
A healing Mass in honor of St. Peregrine, the patron saint of cancer, will be offered at 7 p. m. Tuesday in Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 4220 Seneca St., West Seneca.
Women’s retreat set
A women’s retreat and workshop, called “Dancing with God,” will be held from 9 a. m. to 4 p. m. Oct. 10 in Niagara Falls Baptist Church, Fourth and Main streets, Niagara Falls.
The nondenominational retreat will include a continental breakfast, buffet lunch, a booklet and other handouts. The cost is $25 per person.

Anniversary service
Agape AME Church will celebrate its 40th anniversary during a service at 10:30 a. m. Sept. 27 inside the church at 224 Northland Ave.
Another service will be held at 4 p. m. and will feature the Rev. James A. Lewis III, pastor of Miracle Ministries Church.
The Rev. William C. Cobb is pastor of Agape AME Church.
Senior retreat planned
A day retreat for senior citizens is planned from 9:30 a. m. to 3 p. m. Oct. 1 at St. Columban Center, 6892 Lakeshore Road, Derby.
It will include two conferences, opportunities for personal and communal prayer, and devotions with the celebration of the Eucharistic Liturgy, after which a meal will be served.
The Rev. Richard D. Bordonaro, a chaplain to the Sisters of St. Francis at St. Mary of the Angels in Williamsville, will be the presenter for the Marian Day retreat.

Sisters to be honored
The Sisters of Mercy will celebrate the 60th jubilee of nine sisters with a dinner at 5:15 p. m. and a Mass at 7 p. m. today in the Mercy Center, 625 Abbott Road.
The sisters celebrating 60 years of service are Sisters Mary Rose Curry, Helen Ann Gaughan, Bernadette Geiser, Ann Hughes, Margaret Mary Hughes, Mary Annunciata Kelleher, Mary Caritas Quinn, Mary Alberta Van Remmen and Mary Norine Truax.
The Sisters of Mercy will honor those celebrating 50 years of service at 3 p. m. Oct. 18 with a Mass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2950 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park. The sisters celebrating their golden anniversaries are Sisters Mary Jacqueline Abar, Mary Ann Ayers, Carol Ellis, Patricia Gilbert, Geraldine Murray, Kathleen Sweeney and Mary Anne Waples.
170th anniversary
Buffalo’s oldest African- American Baptist church will celebrate its 170th anniversary on Oct. 11.
Humboldt Parkway Baptist Church, founded in 1839 as the Michigan Street Baptist Church, served as a stop or safe house on the Underground Railroad during the slavery era. Church members sheltered and cared for runaway slaves in the church and in their homes before aiding them in their escape to Canada. The building that housed the former Michigan Street Baptist Church has been designated as a Historic Preservation site.
The Rev. John T. Hilliard is pastor of the church, located at 790 Humboldt Parkway.
Blessing of the animals
Faith Lancaster United Methodist Church will offer a Blessing of the Animals service at 1 p. m. on Oct. 4.
Dogs, cats, birds, rodents and other domesticated pets can receive an individual blessing from the Rev. Tom LeBeau during the service, which is scheduled to be held in the church parking lot, 5505 Broadway, Lancaster.
Pet owners are being asked to bring the animals in cages or on a leash.
