Updated: July 29, 2010, 7:18 AM
NIAGARA FALLS, Ont.—A 63- year-old man was rescued Tuesday after falling down a steep embankment in the Whirlpool area of the Niagara Gorge, Niagara Parks Police report.
Police were called at about 4:20 p. m. after hikers on the U. S. side of the gorge heard a man calling for help. Members of the Niagara Parks High Angle River Team and the Niagara Falls Fire Department were flown by helicopter to an area on the Canadian side known as Thompson’s Point. The victim had fallen in an area well off the marked trail system, police said.
The man, identified only as a Niagara Falls resident, suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder and was unable to move. He was airlifted out by Niagara Helicopters and taken to Greater Niagara General Hospital.
