Two music events face cut in city funding
NIAGARA FALLS
Updated: December 6, 2011, 6:27 AM
NIAGARA FALLS—The popular Hard Rock Concert Series and Niagara Falls Blues Festival may soon lose some financial support from the city.
Council Chairman Sam Fruscione has proposed a resolution to decrease the amount the city provides to each event by 20 percent over the next five years, citing the ability of the “well-run” events to function on their own.
“It has always been the belief of the Council that we would help establish these music events and then remove the training wheels and wish them well,” Fruscione said. “The city will certainly work with these events beyond the phase-out to assist with logistical support.”
The Hard Rock’s funding would be reduced from $180,000 to $150,000 next year.
Funding for the blues festival would be reduced from $30,000 to $24,000.
Mayor Paul A. Dyster said he supports the initiative and has encouraged Fruscione to look to use savings for other up-and-coming special events.
