Special prosecutor sought in Pasquantino case
Updated: August 21, 2010, 7:03 AM
NIAGARA FALLS—Niagara County Legislator John D. Ceretto said last week week he intends to ask the Legislature to pass a resolution calling on Gov. David A. Paterson to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate a case in which former Niagara Falls School District employee Jeffrey B. Pasquantino performed maintenance work at homes of district officials, including former Superintendent Carmen A. Granto, much of it on district time.
Ceretto, a Lewiston Republican and the GOP’s candidate for the 138th District Assembly seat this fall, said six weeks have gone by since The Buffalo News revealed that work, yet no investigations have been announced. The information was provided to the Board of Education by a private investigator hired by a district resident.
Niagara County District Attorney Michael J. Violante looked into the matter but once Pasquantino resigned his district job, announced no charges would be filed.
