9 people arrested on DWI charges
Updated: August 21, 2010, 4:46 AM
State troopers made nine separate arrests over the weekend on charges of driving while intoxicated in Erie and Niagara counties, including a pair at the same time early Monday morning in Clarence, according to State Police reports.
Emilee L. Philips, 21, of Williamsville, was initially stopped for speeding at about 2 a. m. on Clarence Center Road near Long Street in Clarence Center. She was found to have been drinking and under the influence of alcohol, troopers said.
During Philips’ traffic stop, troopers also witnessed a “suspicious vehicle” in the area. Upon investigation, they found the driver, Vincent E. Klie, 23, of Lockport, also allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Both Philips and Klie were taken to the Clarence barracks. Philips and Klie recorded 0.14 and 0.17 percent blood alcohol levels, respectively, according to state police. Philips was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Both were released pending a future date in Clarence Town Court.
Also facing DWI charges are:
Antawon M. Swims, 30, of the Town of Lockport, whose vehicle was found in a ditch on South Transit Road early Sunday. Troopers said he tested a BAC of 0.14 percent and was issued a ticket to appear in Lockport Town Court on March 9.
David Case, 36, of Lockport, who faces a felony DWI charge after troopers saw his vehicle, while traveling at a high rate of speed, turn into the parking lot of Kenyon’s Variety on Lockport-Olcott Road in the Town of Newfane on Saturday. Case tested a 0.16 percent BAC. He was taken to Niagara County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail pending a court date today.
Angela Lopez, 21, of Medina, who was found to have a 0.08 percent blood alcohol level after she allegedly failed to keep right in her lane on Transit Road in the Town of Lockport just before 1 a. m. Saturday.
Heather A. Pollock, 30, of Lockport, who was allegedly driving over the white hazard markings on East Canal Road in Pendleton at about 4:20 a. m. Saturday. Pollock’s BAC was determined to be 0.16 percent.
Kimberly L. Schniener, 23, of Clarence, who was stopped at 2:18 a. m. Sunday on Harris Hill Road for an inadequate brake light and found to have a 0.14 percent BAC.
Troy M. Bigelow, 32, of Boston, who allegedly failed to keep right on Boston State Road in Boston at about 1:45 a. m. Sunday. Police said he refused to submit to a BAC test and was taken to the Erie County Holding Center.
Shawn D. Starks, 31, of Lockport, who allegedly crossed over pavement markings just before 4 a. m. Sunday on South Transit Road in the Town of Lockport and was found to have a 0.11 percent BAC.
