Hillside Children’s Center, an affiliate of Hillside Family of Agencies, has named Kathy Marshall the “clinical mentor” for the nonprofit youth and family services organization’s Niagara Team.

Marshall has more than 18 years’ experience working with children and families. Prior to accepting the mentor position, Marshall served as team leader for the Niagara Team.

“Kathy’s well respected by youth, families, staff,” said Heather Wester, Hillside Children’s Center Western Region service leader.

As part of the Niagara Team, Marshall will help provide critical services, such as therapeutic foster care to youth and families in the county.

Hillside Children’s Center is a provider of care for youth and families with a wide range of emotional, behavioral or “life-circumstance” challenges. The agency offers mental health, child welfare, juvenile justice, special education, “safety net,” and developmental disabilities services to children and families throughout Central and Western New York.

Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, a general and vascular surgeon, has joined the staff at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. His appointment was announced by Dr. Vijay Bojedla, vice president and chief medical officer.

A graduate of the Alexandria University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt, Ibrahim received advanced training in vascular and transplant surgery in Japan and the United States.

He previously served as attending surgeon at Rochester General Hospital and chief of liver and pancreas transplantation at Toledo University. He’s an associate professor in the department of surgery at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. He’s certified by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and accredited by the United Network for Organ Sharing.

He specializes in vascular surgery, including varicose veins, liver and gallbladder surgery, and surgery for cancer of the colon, pancreas and stomach.

“Dr. Ibrahim brings expertise that will enable us to offer surgical techniques that were previously unavailable in our community,” Bojedla said. “His appointment to our surgical staff is especially timely, as he’s skilled in providing surgical care for patients with end-stage kidney disease and vascular access for dialysis.”

Memorial recently opened a 17-station Renal Center at its 10th Street facility.

Ibrahim has an office in Memorial’s medical office building at 620 10th St.

The following University at Albany students from Niagara County were named to last semester’s Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement: Katherine McDonough, of Niagara Falls; Kwadwo Amo-Mensah, of North Tonawanda; Briana McNamee, of Burt; and Megan Redfern, Zachary Desjardins, Marybeth Staebell, Samuel Provenzano-Heal and Lauren Pell, all of Lockport.
