Oct 26

State Police in Lockport charged Shawn M. Carr, 32, of Lake Road, Youngstown, on a vehicle and traffic violation on Route 425 in Cambria at 11:45 p. m., after a check revealed his driving privileges had been suspended. Carr also was found with several narcotic pills, police said.

Oct 27

A store manager at NAPA Auto Parts, on South Transit Road in Lockport, told sheriff’s deputies that during the past two months a store employee has been using a register to make more than $3,100 in false returns. The suspect admitted the thefts and return receipts were turned over to an investigator for possible charges of grand larceny and scheme to defraud. No arrest was reported.

Oct 28

Chantel A. Franczak, of 16th Street, Niagara Falls, was charged by sheriff’s deputies at 12:30 a. m. on I-190 in the Town of Niagara after she was found with no rear plate lamps and had an active warrant against her, according to reports. Deputies said they found a bag of narcotics and other drug paraphernalia that had cocaine powder on them in the cab of her truck. Franczak said they belonged to a “prostitute friend of hers,” deputies reported. She was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, second-and seventh- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and no rear plate lamps.

Thomas E. Fleming, 55, of Bennett Street, North Tonawanda, was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right after he was stopped by sheriff’s deputies at 1:03 a. m. on Akron Road in the Town of Royalton. Deputies said he had a blood-alcohol level of .14 percent.

Oct 29

A woman in the 400 block of Main Street in Ransomville told sheriff’s deputies that someone entered her unlocked shed sometime during the past three days and took several tools, valued at $1,380. Stolen items included a generator, a jigsaw, a miter saw, a power drill and a snow blower. A neighbor said a gray pickup had been seen driving around the house.

Oct 30

A suspicious fire in a vacant residence at 441z Sixth St., Niagara Falls, caused an undetermined amount of damage, city fire officials said. The fire was reported at 2:17 a. m.

A Niagara Falls woman arrived at her Seneca Avenue home at 1:40 p. m. to find a male juvenile inside, city police said. The boy, dressed entirely in black, fled upon seeing the woman and was last seen running up Lockport Road. Police have identified a suspect in the case and are continuing to investigate. Entry to the home was gained by breaking a basement window.

An ongoing dispute between two women erupted into violence about 4

p. m., Niagara Falls police said. An Ashland Avenue woman told police that a female came to her home screaming obscenities and then pointed a handgun at her. An investigation was continuing.

Winston Smith, 42, of 22nd Street, Niagara Falls, was charged with second- degree assault and criminal mischief at 8:45 p. m. Niagara Falls police said that Smith hit his girlfriend in the back and head with an unknown object and also broke her cell phone during an argument. The victim was not seriously injured.

Lockport police said they charged James L. Griggs, 26, of Cottage Street, on a warrant with third-degree assault. Griggs allegedly used his foot to stomp on the head of a man on Aug. 1 on North Transit Street, near the Niagara Hotel. The victim lost consciousness and was taken to a city hospital with cut on his head and a concussion.

Christopher M. Williams, 40, of Chestnut Street, Lockport, was charged with two felony counts of grand larceny, as well as petit larceny at 6:30 a. m. on Elmwood Avenue. The victim said Williams was staying with her for two days and then her car keys were gone, her wallet was missing and purse with credit cards and $350 was gone. Niagara Falls police said they found Williams and turned him over to Lockport police.

Oct. 31

A Town of Tonawanda man was charged with third-degree menacing after an altercation with another man in the parking lot of the Hyde Park Ice Arena in Niagara Falls, city police said. Kenneth W. Wigdorski, 43, of Colvin Boulevard, was arrested at about 5:41 p. m., according to a police report.

A Pierce Avenue woman told Niagara Falls police someone had left threatening messages on her MySpace page between July 1 and Oct. 13, according to a police report.

A burglar kicked in the back door of a home on Walnut Avenue near 16th Street between 3:30 and 7 p. m., Niagara Falls police said. Items taken included jewelry, video game systems, adult movies and $625 in cash, according to a city police report.

Niagara Falls police investigated the theft of 63 Xanax tablets from a Memorial Parkway home. A woman who was allowed to use the restroom is believed to have been responsible for the theft.

Donte R. Dickey, 39, was arrested at 9:44 a. m., Niagara Falls police reported. The Main Street resident was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal contempt and possession of a controlled substance after police said he violated a court order to stay away from a Cleveland Avenue woman and also broke her window with a paint can. Police said Dickey also had drugs in his possession at the time of his arrest.

A Grand Island woman reported that her 38-foot boat was vandalized while in winter storage at a pole barn on Ridge Road in Cambria. Sheriff’s deputies said someone spray-painted graffiti on the boat, causing an estimated $500 in damage.

Nov. 1

Someone threw a brick through a rear window of a home on Woodlawn Avenue, between 24th and 27th streets in Niagara Falls, a woman reported to city police at 1:17 a. m.

A vehicle parked near Lockport Street and Ontario Avenue in Niagara Falls had its tires slashed and a window smashed with a brick, city police said. The incident happened just after midnight, according to a police report.

State police in Lockport said they charged Sean W. Coogan, 38, of Tuscarora Road, Niagara Falls, with driving while intoxicated after he was stopped on Robinson Road in the Town of Lockport for inadequate tail lights.

Connie M. Soemann, of Slayton Settlement Road, Gasport, was charged by sheriff’s deputies at 12:39 a. m. on Wheeler Road in Newfane with driving while ability impaired and failure to keep right, after she failed to signal a turn as she turned from Ridge Road onto Lockport-Olcott Road and then crossed into oncoming traffic on Wheeler Road, according to reports.

Matthew J. Brown, 28, of Grove Avenue, Lockport, was charged by sheriff’s deputies with felony driving while intoxicated. He was charged with a felony because of a previous alcohol-related conviction, deputies said, and was speeding at 75 mph in a 55-mph zone when stopped at 4:12 a. m. in the 3800 block of Coomer Road in Newfane.

Nov. 2

A 30-year-old Lewiston man told sheriff’s deputies that a mounted plow unit he left parked in The Summit mall parking lot, valued at $4,000, was stolen sometime in the the past three days. He told deputies he had recently bought the truck from the mall, where he works, and was waiting for a part so the plow would lift and he could take it home.

Driveway sealant was splattered on the walls, stained the concrete, and spilled into the sewer drainage system, causing the system to plug up at Lincoln Car Wash on Lincoln Avenue in Lockport. Cleanup costs were estimated at $250, according to the owner, who told sheriff’s deputies that the suspect was observed on camera in an extended-cab pickup and had a goatee. An investigation is continuing.

A Cleveland Avenue man told Niagara Falls police that a friend from Canada came to stay with him and that a fake Rolex watch valued at $50, and a gold broach valued at $1,500 were stolen. The man said he inquired at a second-hand store and found that the friend had been trying to sell them.

A City of Niagara Falls employee who is overseeing the Underground Railroad Project told Niagara Falls police that while he was out of his office Oct. 30 two men came looking for him “aggressively and anxiously” and one came back on Monday with comments about one of the board members. The employee said he felt the nature of the visit was very awkward and he felt very intimidated.

Nov. 3

George E. Schoelles, of Autumnview Drive in Wilson, told sheriff’s deputies that he was driving on Oak Lane in Lockport when the cab of his 1985 pickup caught fire. He told deputies that he was able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher before fire trucks responded. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical. The cab of the truck sustained some damage.

Nov. 4

Jason C. Cain, 26, of LaGrange Street, Lockport, was charged by Lockport police with third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, stemming from a domestic incident on Oct. 30. The victim said Cain had been highly intoxicated, accused her of cheating and told her to leave; then when she left and tried to call for a ride, she said he took her phone and tried to choke her by wrapping his arms around her neck. She said he also bit her left cheek. The woman said this all occurred in front of her 1-year-old son, according to police reports.

Timothy Upton, 22, of Ash Street, Lockport, was charged at 1:14 a. m. on South Transit Road by sheriff’s deputies with driving while intoxicated and inadequate directional signals, after deputies said his rear turn signal was not clear as he turned from Robinson Road onto South Transit, and he ran over a curb.

Nov. 5

Following a police chase and refusal to stop, which began at 11:30 p. m. on Washington Street in Lockport, city resident Joshua L. Meadows, 29, of Marshall Place, pulled into his own driveway and was charged by city police with aggravated unlicensed operation, reckless driving, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, unlawful fleeing, disobeying a stop sign, five counts of failure to stop for a stop sign, seven counts of failure to stop for a stop signal, and unreasonable speed. His passenger, Chanel Riggs, 21, of the same address, who police said was uncooperative, said she knew Meadows did not have a valid license, according to reports. She was charged with facilitating an aggravated unlicensed operator. Police said during the chase Meadows was driving off the road, ignoring stop signs and signals and driving on both sides of the road.

Nov. 6

A resident of Humphrey Road in Gasport contacted sheriff’s deputies after someone stole a camera he had placed in the woods behind his home. The theft occurred sometime during the week. The camera was valued at $108.

Nov. 7

Terry Jones, 41, of Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, was charged after a traffic stop on Buffalo Avenue at 7:50 p. m. with driving without a license, driving with a suspended or revoked registration and failure to show proof, Niagara Falls police said.

The owner of Lakeview Orchards, on Wilson-Burt Road in Newfane, told sheriff’s deputies that the mechanical shop was burglarized by forcing open an interior door. He said the office computer, two flat-screen monitors, assorted hand tools, chain saws, a three-ton floor jack, a grease gun, and several impact guns were taken. He said several locked cabinets were pried open. Total loss and damage was pegged at $7,600.
