NIAGARA FALLS — A daylong health care conference for women, featuring nationally recognized speaker and cancer survivor Brenda Elsagher, is slated for Saturday in Conference Center Niagara Falls.

The conference, presented by Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Center, also features a luncheon, fashion show, informational displays and a plethora of health information. It is titled, “Surround Yourself with Knowledge and Care! A Healthcare Conference for Women.”

“We have built on the success of last year’s conference by recruiting another quality national speaker, expanding the fashion show, and adding even more product demonstrations and health information programs,” said Adele Berti, coordinator of physician relations and recruitment for Mount St. Mary’s and co-chairwoman of the conference.

“The Mount St. Mary’s Hospital staff and physicians look forward to another full and exciting day and we have been able to keep the cost to just $15 per person.”

Registration and a continental breakfast kick off the conference at 8 a. m., followed by Elsagher at 9 a. m.

Elsagher will address “Bringing Joy Through the Journey,” as a glimpse at her intercultural, interfaith marriage, and her everyday experiences as a mother. Her book, “If the Battle is Over, Why Am I Still in Uniform?” is a humorous take on a serious subject — the story of a cancer survivor.

She is a colorectal cancer survivor.

A series of informational displays will be featured at 10:15 a. m., including a cooking demonstration by Chef Eli Hoffman of the Conference Center and Debra Hoffman of Mount St. Mary’s; a makeover by Barton Hill Hotel and Spa; wine and chocolates provided by Village Wine Tours of Lewiston and Lindt Chocolates of the Fashion Outlets; Tai Chi by Leslie Svensson; Sherwin Williams Paint by Laura Sexton; Esteem LeMystere Bra-Fitting by Melissa Hawkins and Kathy Qualiana; floral arrangements by Lorelie Luther of RD Woddykins Creations; and knitting by Janice Hillman.

At 11 a. m., participants will select from a series of five programs: “Colorectal Health,” featuring Dr. Mark Falvo, colorectal surgeon, Claudia Kurtzworth of the Niagara County Department of Health and main speaker Elsagher; “Moving through Menopause,” with Dr. Renee Baughman of Gynecology Associates of WNY; “Spiritual Health,” featuring Lora Allen of Bethany Baptist Church; “Fitness Health: Exercise Band Class,” with Susan Keegan, physical therapist and senior director of rehabilitation and physical therapy professionals from Mount St. Mary’s Hospital (wear comfortable clothes): and “Sleep Health,” with Dr. Kenneth Murray, medical director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Mount St. Mary’s.

A luncheon and fashion show at noon will spotlight fashions from the shops at Fashion Outlets.

The information sessions and demonstrations will be repeated in the afternoon, with the addition of a session on “Infection Prevention and Treatment,” with Dr. Thomas Cumbo, medical director of infection control at Mount St. Mary’s.
