LOCKPORT—A Town of Lockport man who told the judge he is awaiting a liver transplant pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony driving while intoxicated in Niagara County Court.

Louis J. Converso Jr., 53, of Northview Drive, posted a blood-alcohol level of 0.37 percent—more than four times the legal limit—when arrested by Niagara County sheriff’s deputies on Cold Springs Road on March 24.

Converso, who was convicted of DWI in 2003 in the City of Lockport, pleaded guilty to the highest charge in exchange for a sentencing cap of one to three years in prison. He will be sentenced Dec. 1 and is free on bail.

“You must not operate a motor vehicle under any circumstances,” Judge Sara S. Sperrazza said. “If you do, I will find out and you will be remanded to jail, and I will sentence you [to the maximum] 1 1/3 to four years.”
