Tax foreclosure auction nets less than expected
Updated: August 19, 2010, 6:47 AM
LOCKPORT—Proceeds were lower than expected at the city’s tax foreclosure auction Tuesday night.
City Treasurer Michael E. White said the 27 winning bids totaled $217,000; he had been expecting close to $300,000. He said one factor in lower bids might have been the new policy of allowing prospective bidders to tour the foreclosed homes with building inspectors to see all the code violations that would have to be repaired.
On the bright side, “We’re going to get more responsible people fixing them up,” White said.
The former Scapelliti’s Super Store on Clinton Street was sold to Michael Adams of Buffalo for $17,000. Scott Mietlowski of Barker bought an abandoned Mill Street foundry for $1,200. The highest- priced house, 36 Crosby Ave., sold to Lori Robinson of Lockport for $20,000.
