National Orienteering Day to be marked Sept. 18

Anyone interested in learning map and compass skills can get instruction Sept. 18 on National Orienteering Day.

The Buffalo Orienteering Club will conduct a 90-minute educational event for any experience level at 11 a. m. at Chestnut Ridge Park’s picnic pavilion 18 in Orchard Park. A$5 fee includes a park map.

The event is a highlight of the club’s fall season, which also includes orienteering meets Sept. 26 at Holiday Valley ski resort, Oct. 2at the Schoellkopf Boy Scouts Camp and Oct. 23 at Emery Park.

Events are geared for walkers and runners of all ages and include instruction. In addition, a competitive meet is set for Oct. 12 on Goat Island in Niagara Falls.
