BATAVIA—A Wyoming County couple are in guarded condition in a Rochester hospital after a deer ran into their motorcycle Monday afternoon on Route 5 in the Town of Batavia, Genesee County sheriff’s officials report.

David L. Patrick, 63, and Nancy L. Patrick, 58, of Perry, were flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital after the accident, which occurred shortly before 3 p.m.

The Patricks were westbound on Route 5 when the deer ran out from the south shoulder, striking Nancy Patrick, the rear passenger, according to police reports. Her husband lost control of the motorcycle, which overturned and ejected them.

The deer was badly injured and had to be destroyed, Chief Deputy Gordon L. Dibble said.
