GENESEE COUNTY
Emergency Medical Services wraps up its first year
Updated: September 4, 2010, 6:33 AM
BATAVIA—Mercy Emergency Medical Services responded to about 400 calls per month in its first year as Genesee’s countywide ambulance response team.
Last Sept. 1, EMS, a part of the Buffalo- based Mercy Flight, took on its first ground service, after the city Fire Department operated EMT responders for 10 years.
Margaret Ferrentino, vice president and chief financial officer for Mercy Flight, said that in the past year EMS teams responded to 4,767 incidents, deploying 5,966 units for major incidents or multivehicle accidents.
In the same year, Mercy Flight— with one helicopter based at the Genesee County Airport—conducted 92 air medical missions in the county.
Each of the county’s 20 municipalities paid an annual fee based on the number of calls in its jurisdiction.
