Drivers take note: Schools open this week
Updated: September 7, 2010, 6:33 AM
One in every six drivers is distracted while driving through a school zone, and more than a third of motorists roll through stop signs in those zones, according to a national survey.
As area schools reopen this week, it’s those drivers who are being targeted at a news conference being held today by the AAA of Western New York, along with law enforcement and school officials.
They will urge motorists to slow down and stay alert, especially before and after school each day, as children return to school.
The news conference is scheduled for 10:30 a. m. at the AAA Amherst Travel and Insurance Center, 100 International Drive, Amherst.
Among the participants joining AAA officials will be representatives from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, state police, Buffalo police and the Lake Shore Central Schools.
