Referendum on dissolution of village planned Sept. 28
Updated: August 21, 2010, 7:12 AM
Residents will have the opportunity to vote on the dissolution of Farnham village government Sept. 28.
The Village Board voted unanimously at a special meeting Friday to set its referendum after summer vacations and Labor Day week, said Mayor Terry Caber. He added there had been some discussion about the possibility of having the dissolution vote on Primary Day, but board members decided against it.
“We felt that it should be a standalone election,” Caber said. “Let people focus solely on this issue, and don’t let it be clouded with another election process.”
Kevin Gaughan, who is spearheading the village dissolution campaigns, praised village leaders for their chosen date and contrasted their decision with the decision made by the villages of Williamsville and Sloan to hold their dissolution votes on Aug. 17, when many residents will be on vacation.
Polling will be from noon to 9 p.m. at Village Hall, 526 Commercial St.
