Amherst police are investigating a report that a woman was raped on Wehrle Drive early this

morning by a man who jumped out of the bushes, grabbed her and pushed her to the ground.

The woman told police that she was walking under the Thruway overpass at about 1 a.m. when

she was attacked by the man. Besides being raped, she also was robbed of a debit card and

about $20, Amherst police Capt. Stephen McGonagle said.

A neighbor heard the woman crying and called 911. The victim was treated in Millard

Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

The assailant fled on foot in an unknown direction.
