Buffalo attorney to meet Queen Elizabeth in Toronto
Updated: August 21, 2010, 7:01 AM
Thomas E. Schofield, a partner with Buffalo law firm of Magavern Magavern Grim LLP, will meet Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on Tuesday when the two make a stop in Toronto’s Queen’s Park.
American vice chairman of the Niagara Bicentennial of the War of 1812 Legacy Council, Schofield will meet them with his Canadian counterpart, Deborah L. Whitehouse, who is executive director of Parks and Heritage for the Niagara Parks Commission.
Schofield received word of the invitation some weeks ago, and official confirmation within the last few days. He said he has been reading up on the correct protocol when meeting the queen— slightly bow and do not touch—and is very excited.
He said he recalled first seeing her in the late 1950s, when she came to open the St. Lawrence Seaway.
The queen and Prince Philip arrived in Halifax on Monday to begin a 10-day summer tour in Canada.
