Carl P. Paladino is finally gaining national headlines in his Republican campaign for governor — but hardly the kind he was seeking.

Keith Olbermann bestowed his dubious "Worst Person in the World" award on Paladino during his "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" show on MSNBC Monday night after revelations that Paladino forwarded emails containing pornography, bestiality and racist material.

And in Albany this morning, the same Tea Party Express group that staged a rally at Erie Canal Harbor on Monday distanced itself from Paladino — who just a day ago was emerging as a key ally of tea party groups.

"You've seen the emails ... so what makes you think we would support him? That's absolutely incompatible with anything we stand for," said Mark Williams, the group's chairman.

"Pornographic, racist e-mails. How do you think that we would ever support something like that?"

Olbermann, the left-leaning MSNBC host, called Paladino "the tea party candidate for the clearly jinxed office of governor of New York State" and noted that Paladino's e-mails "contain racist jokes, porn and bestiality."

"Carl 'My E-Mails May Contain Bestiality' Paladino, tea party candidate for governor in New York: today's worst person in the world," Olbermann said to the usual backdrop of horror-flick organ music.

Meanwhile, Paladino's campaign headquarters in the Ellicott Square in downtown Buffalo reported receiving a bomb threat at about 12:35 p.m. today from a male claiming to be with a "black militant group" and threatening to "bomb all of you." The building was completely evacuated but tenants were allowed to return after 40 minutes when nothing was found.

After the caller was asked for the name of his group, he terminated the telephone call.

Paladino was moved to a location away from the Ellicott Square, where he remained late this afternoon.

The campaign does not have incoming caller identification.

Campaign manager Michael R. Caputo said emergency vehicles from the police and fire departments went to the scene after an alarm system was activated. City police are continuing to investigate.

On Monday, WNYMedia.net posted a series of e-mails earlier in the day that Paladino acknowledged sending to a wide circle of friends.

Olbermann also made great fun of the comments by Paladino campaign manager Michael R. Caputo, who said: "It figures that members of the party who brought us record taxes, record spending and record debt would want to change the topic from reform to having sex with horses and S&M parlors."

Commenting on that, Olbermann said: "Wait a minute, we know the thing about the horses, but there's nothing in the e-mails about S&M parlors. Whats this about Paladino and S&M parlors?"

And in Albany, the national tea party spokesman in Albany today said Paladino has little in common with the organizations' goals.

"Clearly he doesn't understand what this movement is about if he's touting himself as a tea party candidate, because, again, we are a human rights movement and it is flat out impossible for an advocate for human rights to embrace racism in any way, shape or form," Williams said when asked about Paladino's outreach to the tea party movement.

Williams, a Sacramento radio talk show host, also sought to distance his group from Paladino and Monday's Buffalo rally.

"He was not a part of our event yesterday," Williams said, claiming Paladino spoke after the official tea party rally ended.

Wednesday's editions of The Buffalo News will further examine Paladino's relationship with the tea party movement, which has morphed into a major political force over the past year.
