An $83,648 check for Haiti’s earthquake recovery was turned over to a relief organization Friday by Dunn Tire.

The company raised the money by donating $5 for every tire sold between Jan. 16 and Feb. 14 at its 29 stores between Syracuse and Erie, Pa., and by accepting additional contributions from the public.

The check was presented by Dunn Tire Chairman Randy Clark to David Campbell, executive director of Hands On Disaster Response, a Carlisle, Maine, organization that is operating a relief project in the Haitian community of Leogane, which was 90 percent destroyed by the January quake. Hands On Disaster Response, was founded by Campbell, who headed Buffalo’s Computer Task Group.
