University at Buffalo police were continuing their investigation after Tuesday's evacuation of a

North Campus library, but police officials said that they were not able to confirm there was a man

with a gun on campus and that there is no longer a threat to the university.

Lockwood Library is open, and classes, activities and operations at UB have returned to

normal, university officials said Wednesday morning.

UB police responded immediately toa possible sighting of a gunman on campus Tuesday, but

a thorough four-hour search of the library did not uncover anyone suspicious, said UB Police Chief

Gerald W. Schoenle Jr.

"We responded to an unconfirmed report with an abundance of caution, andno continuing

threat to the campus community could be verified," Schoenle said. "We have increased our police

presence on the North Campus as a precaution."
